PVC Blinds - This is what they like:
- A wash and clean with soapy water (preferably wool mix diluted into warm water) and a nice rub over with a clean chamois or a micro-fiber towel. We supply you with complementary Micro-Fiber towel on install day.
- Two or three times a year a clean and polish your binds with VuPlex® (using a micro-fiber towel). This will keep the blinds shiny, supple and rejuvinated and will in turn give them a longer life. VuPlex® also acts as a type of "spac-filler" for scratches; it makes 'em disappear.
- The zips like a spray of silicon two to three times a year.
- Roll the blinds up tight and evenly (the PVC has a memory).
- Don't roll them up wet... or if you have to because of a storm, un-roll them the next day and let them dry out. This is vital!
- When the blinds are down, and the zips down, thread the rope from the bottom bar through the eye of the zip before you do the yachter's knot around the cleat. This makes sure the zipper doesn't ride up, and adds to the strength should wind start to blow.
- Remove the top straps when the blinds are down; the straps can dangle and scratch the PVC.
This is what they don't like:
- If the Blinds have been rolled up for a long time, they can become stiff and wrinkly. When you roll them down, give them a few minutes before you run the zips down to avoid damaging the zips.
- About the wrinkles... a bit of direct sun will take care of these. An hour or two should do it.
- Being zipped half way up. They hate this!! All the way up or all the way down, but not in between please.
- Being left down in really strong winds. About 35- 40 knots (or 60 km/h) and that is their limit. Do not have them down in gale force winds.
- Not being cleaned: this will shorten their life and affect their warranty.
What happens to PVC Blinds in Summer:
- PVC will expand and contract according to the seasons, so in summer the fabric will become quite supple depending on how much direct sunlight they get.
- In an enclosed area they will trap the heat. Rolling them up on these days is advised, preferably early in the day when it is a bit cooler. Do not forget to use the removable straps, and try not to leave them up for more than a few days.
- When it cools off again, get the blinds down and ease the zips down gradually.
What happens to them in Winter:
- During the cold months blinds will tighten up. During manufacture this has been allowed for. When installed, the blinds will appear less taught, or 'relaxed' in fit.
- Being rolled up in the rain sometimes shows white frosty marks. Don't panic!! (please do not try to scrub these marks out). It is the result of moisture soaked into the fabric, and this is reversible. The blinds will recover after a few days out in the direct sunlight.
Things to be aware of:
- PVC blinds are not brick walls or a glass window. They will be slightly loose when first installed.
- PVC blinds have a good memory, so treat them kindly and in return they will do the same.
- A can of silicon spray will cost between $4.50 & $10.00 a can and can be purchased at Bunnings or Autobarn.
- A can of VuPlex® will cost between $15 (small) to $20 (large); these can also be purchased from Autobarn or Bunnings.
